Generics are getting more and more prescribed by doctors and upon patients requests. Many people come to their doctors to change brand drugs to their generic equivalents. But not everyone knows if all of the brand drugs have generic counterparts and what are the names of their copies. On Oct. 3 2005, the FDA approved first-time generic formulations of amlodipine besylate tablets made by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Generic Norvasc belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine is used for the treatment and prevention of angina resulting from coronary spasm as well as from exertion. Amlodipine is also used in the treatment of high blood pressure.
